About us
Who writes FixItFriendly, how we test repairs, and why we publish both the DIY and the hire-a-pro cost.
Nobody should have to guess what’s wrong with their own home.
FixItFriendly explains household repairs in plain language — what’s likely wrong, what it should cost, what you can safely handle, and when it’s smarter to call someone. We write for renters and owners alike, because a leaking faucet looks the same from either side of a lease.
We do the repair before we write it up
Every step-by-step guide is done at least once by someone on staff, in a real house, with the tools we tell you to buy. If a step is fiddly, we say so.
Written for renters and owners
Each guide says plainly whether a job is normally yours to handle or your landlord’s, and what to put in writing before you touch anything.
Costs, both ways
We publish the DIY cost and the hire-a-pro cost side by side, so choosing to pay someone is an informed decision rather than a guess.
